Meet the Team – Svetla Radivoeva (Lead Designer)

I love the world of The Golden Apple. It uses a rich existing world and adds our imagination, which creates a contemporary mythical world. I think the combination is insanely cool :)

1. Where were you born and where have you lived?
I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. I have lived most of my life there, a little bit in Belgium and for the last three years I have been living in California, USA.

2. Where have you studied / are you studying?
I started my bachelor degree in New Bulgarian University in Sofia, but I never finished it. After that I went on and studied character animation in an online school called Animation Mentor, which gave me an incredible start and vast knowledge in feature animation.

3. Where have you worked and where do you work now?
I started working in an animation studio called Venelin Animation, then I worked for almost four years in Haemimont games, a bit in Nwave Digital in Belgium and now I am working in Walt Disney Animation Studios.

4. What is your involvement in the project?
As the Lead Designer I work in close collaboration with Dimitar Petrov and we are responsible for the character development in the series.

5. What inspired you to join and what motivates you to be part of the project?
I fell in love with the project at the moment I heard about it. It was odd because I was on the very same wave – Bulgarian mythology, when Mitko contacted me. I had the strangest feeling he had been spying on my thoughts, although we had never actually met beforehand. What hooked me was the vibe of the show, the subject and the attention I felt Bulgarian mythology deserves. I have been feeling that younger generations completely get lost in western culture not knowing what rich and powerful cultural heritage they have and how inspiring and beautiful it is. And I believe that adults are to blame for this. For some reason there has been a lack of interest and desire for Bulgarian fairy tales and mythology to be promoted in any way.

And last but not least I can’t ignore the fact that the main character is an emancipated girl ready to fight for the right on her own and not waiting for someone to save her instead. It introduces values I care for – I’d like girls to have stong and brave female role models.

6. What is your favourite colour?
It changes every once in a while. Recently it is Bordeaux.

7. Have you seen a Kuker before? What was it like?
I had seen Kuker in person years ago, and just recently I saw again – both of the times it was scary.

8. Which is your favourite place in the world?
Hm… I have to see more of the world to be able to answer, but Kauai is the newest in the list.

9. What inspires you?
Every day it is a different thing. Magical stuff for example.

10. What three magical powers do you possess?
None… have to rely on my nonmagical self.

11. What magical powers would you like to possess? What would you do with them?
I would love to be able to fly. Not very original, but it would be so cool. I would fly through the clouds and see how they feel, go anywhere I want and would be able to fly away from danger very fast :)

12. Would you like to live in a magical world and which one?
Yes, maybe Harry Potter’s world?

13. If you find the Golden Apple, what would you do with it?
I am not sure. There is no cure for all the bad stuff in the world…

14. If you could choose to be a character from the Golden Apple world, which one would you be?
Hahaha, well this is obvious, I love Vihra.
